Modul 1
Introduction and Orientation + Hands-on Practice at the Decks

ABOUT
Although our club is strictly an 18+ venue, outside of our nightlife events we are actively committed to youth culture, supporting up-and-coming artists, and developing fresh talent. Through a series of progressive, modular workshops, our project provides a foundation for aspiring DJs as well as for curious individuals who simply want to get a taste of the craft. Combining theory and practice, we cover all topics relevant to DJing before delving deeper into specific areas of individual interest.
We want to give young people the chance to gain their first experience of nightlife - even when it takes place during the day - in open-minded clubs where acceptance and diversity are the norm, and where "awareness" is not just a trendy buzzword but a lived reality. Our workshops go beyond mere technical know-how to explore how the scene functions as a whole through mutual regard, respect, and a sense of collective togetherness. Each workshop is followed by a youth party featuring newcomers from the workshop on the decks; exceptionally, young people as young as 14 are permitted to attend (with an upper age limit also in place). It is a party by young people, for young people. These events maintain a heightened level of awareness, recognizing that the dynamics of interacting within a large community are skills that need to be learned.
FLINTA*¹ individuals remain significantly underrepresented in the DJ scene. This is not due to a lack of interest or talent, but often stems from structural barriers, a lack of role models, and an environment historically dominated by men. Implementing quotas for DJ workshops can help address these inequalities and create low-threshold access. Such measures ensure that FLINTA*¹ individuals have the opportunity to gain experience, build networks, and develop their skills within a supportive framework. This not only boosts diversity behind the decks but also fosters a more equitable and diverse club and music culture in the long run.
For this reason, the available places are distributed with gender balance.
¹FLINTA*: This abbreviation serves as an inclusive term for all people affected by patriarchal discrimination who do not identify as cisgender men. FLINTA* is a queer-feminist acronym standing for women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans*, and agender individuals. The appended asterisk acts as a placeholder to include all other gender identities and queer ways of life not explicitly listed. In a social context, the term "cis" (from the Latin *cis*, meaning "on this side") describes people whose gender identity aligns with the sex assigned to them at birth. And no, accepting queer people doesn't make life harder or take anything away from anyone. Calm down, male Karen!
The workshops consist of several modules that build upon and complement one another. Registering for a workshop automatically includes registration for all modules. Each module comprises a theoretical component followed by practical application for testing and practice. You will receive a certificate upon completion of the workshop. Thanks to funding from the Department of Art and Culture of the state capital Magdeburg, participation in the workshop is free of charge. In addition to the DJ workshops, workshops on lighting control will also be held soon. These aim to teach interested young people the fundamentals of live lighting control and light show programming—covering both traditional DMX-based control consoles and software programs like Madrix and Daslight, which utilize the ArtNet protocol alongside DMX.
